Rubbed the Wrong Way

What Rubs you the Wrong Way? Are you Looking for a Fight?

Every time you hear something – especially something you disagree with – are you looking to rip it apart? Are you looking to find the ‘wrongs’? Are you looking for a fight? Or are you the type who ignores it, denies it and walks away?

When I started my Yoga training, I loved it. It was incredible and as I evolved – I was exposed to other types of Yoga – other traditions – and at first, I was possessive and defensive of my original style of yoga. I didn’t want to be presented with other styles that made me doubt my original training. I closed my heart and mind to other possibilities as I took a stand against all others. This was very safe and extremely limiting for me.

As I matured and grew into a bigger version of yoga and life, my heart and mind opened. I began training in other styles of yoga and through that pathway, opened so many doors and windows within myself and my beliefs. I had to push against my comfort zone and allow myself to consider the possibility that there was more to yoga – more to learn – more to life.

I learned – I listened – and I began to broaden my perspectives. This took time, patience and humility. It took a willingness to question all that I believed to be true for myself and my life. It took not getting closed down in a limited version of any topic or belief. What I had to come to terms with was the idea – that to question anything & everything didn’t project a disrespect of anyone but a desire to expand and evolve into the best version of myself using every tool, every lesson, situation or challenge to inform my reality and my life. Even the questioning of long-held beliefs, didn’t mean I wouldn’t return to them – but it allowed me to be clear.

What about you? What do you push back against? What is it that triggers you? What is it that intrigues you? What is it that interests you – that inspires you – and gives you a nudge to open yourself up to question your known narrative?

In this incredibly chaotic and confusing world of information, disinformation and misinformation, there are too many choices – too many options – too many unknowns to stand still and stay in the eye of the storm for your entire life.

Life invites you to participate and to continue to evolve as you expand your understanding of life & yourself. It asks you to lean in – to listen – to discern – to question the things that don’t feel right to you – then to decide what is worth your time to investigate &  add a depth to your life.

In this world, where it seems people are waiting to pounce on anything that sounds or looks different from what they believe – it becomes a radical act to even ask questions. Ask anyway!

In this world, where it seems at times that there is a lack of empathy and compassion for others’ views, be radical – be kind. You don’t have to accept their views, but allow them their process.

In this world, where you have a choice

  • choose to be kind

  • choose to be curious

  • choose to be uncomfortable as you research

  • choose to be true to yourself

  • choose to be unique

  • choose the meandering path of uncertainty and questioning to find your True Purpose

  • choose the road less traveled

  • choose to be the best version of yourself you can possibly be

  • choose to expose yourself to opinions, ideas and beliefs that don’t align with your own (broaden your horizons)

  • choose to respectfully agree to disagree

  • choose to explore your triggers and begin the challenging yet expansive journey of healing

  • choose to release what no longer serves your Highest Good & Greatest Joy

  • choose to pursue opportunities & potential that uplifts you and inspires you

  • choose wisely and always

  • be kind!
