What Would You Do?

If you had no financial, work, familial or societal pressure to do what you are currently doing, what else would you do?

In a perfect world, I imagine, we would all do things we enjoy doing – we’d spend time with people we love and laugh with – create adventures that inspire us daily – deepen our connections – lean into our relationship with God/Source and simply be present with the beauty in life. Aw, yes, the dreams we dream.

I have often asked myself, “If I wasn’t doing this, what would I do? If I didn’t have rent, car payment, insurance, bills, etc. to pull me back into this 3D world, what would I do and where would I do it?” It’s a contemplation that I continue to have on a regular basis. It keeps me present and aware of where my energy, time and attention are going.

It’s interesting to me that most of the time, much of what I do, I would continue to do because I truly love it. I love feeling that I’m giving back in expansive, inspiring ways and connecting with like-hearted people in that process. I also continue to learn about myself and life through the process. It’s how I know what, if anything, is missing. It’s both humbling and gratifying.

In being curious and asking the questions, we open the door to what may be; to where we could go; to align more fully with our dreams and goals. In saying that though, we need to be aware of what we truly want, what we dream of being/having and the direction we want to take.

So, ask yourself, ‘What do I really want?’ ‘What are my dreams?’ ‘What do I love doing and where do I see myself doing that?’ Sometimes, it is simply knowing what we don’t want.

In this courageously curious place, try not to get caught up in the ‘hows’ - how you will do something, how you will get somewhere, but rather stay in your imagination with the details and the magic of the dream.

If we don’t understand and know ourselves fully, it’s really challenging to dream a dream with clarity and vision. We need to know things we love to do, things that uplift us, things that inspire us; things that empower us – things that allow us to stay connected to our heart and soul – and thus, our purpose in life. We also need to know what triggers us, and what challenges us.

The idea of creating more of what you want in your life and living a life of your dreams isn’t in ignoring the truth but in constantly creating or staying open to opportunities that may open other doors of possibility and potential. Then with wisdom, courage and confidence, begin to move in that direction by what we say, what we do and how we proceed. Baby steps forward every day in every way possible and when we stumble and fall, it’s a chance to check in and ensure we are staying true to ourselves in this process. If not, change direction.

What I continue to learn as I move in and out of knowing, is that it truly is the journey and what I pick up and add to my ‘tool kit’ as I go (even when my dreams change), I continue to learn, heal and grow into a better version of myself. On those days, focus brings clarity.

So, I ask you, ‘What would you do?’ What would you pick up and what would you lay down?
